Styling with Warm Tones: Maroon & Mustard

Earthy tones like maroon, terracotta, and mustard can feel heavy if not balanced correctly, however there are many ways to style them so they feel more grounded and make the space feel warm, without being too overpowering. Adding color into your space doesn't have to be complicated and doesn't require you to entirely change your interior style. Use it in subtle ways to enhance the overall look from a standard, run-of-the-mill aesthetic to something unique and intentionally curated.

The key is to use these bold colors as grounding elements within a light, airy foundation. Start with cream or off-white walls and large furniture pieces that are perhaps more on the neutral side. Materials like wood will also complement earthy colors by bringing an added warmth to the space.

Then, introduce color through textiles, like a block-printed throw draped over a chair, a tufted lumbar pillow on the bed, or bright tones peeping through a patterned rug. These warm accents draw the eye and create cozy vignettes without shrinking the space.
